I used to have a lot of nervous energy around events I was in charge of. I guess I still do..but not this one. I woke up early this morning and went to my studio, made tea, did my meditation and started a journal entry with the strong foundation of passion I have attached to what I'm heading into with this CARE Alliance. My bf started calling it "homework" as I get home from my social work job and get busy with my social cause job. I'm glad he sees I'm taking it seriously. I do have some leftover feelings of a partner who would say "what are you gonna do with all this junk" and I'd want to break out into a Black Eyed Peas song. I got to thinking about those days of collecting supplies and not really doing all I wanted to do with my dreams while I had a lot to do with my real life. I'm so grateful for time and energy and resource and FAITH (from myself AND my homies) to be moving forward with art making and giving with community groups. This time, I'm making my own group. Gotta get my feet wet and my teaching muscles working again. It used to come pretty easy when I had my groups of captive audiences in youth corrections and the young women's shelter.

I started thinking. That same partner who complained about my arts and crafts supplies taking up space and not supporting any part of our lives with it ..well, he was the same partner who worked very hard to do music jams at the bar down the street and put together bands to play out in the community. I might have thought and even complained about all the money spent on a hobby that didn't pay any bills but I knew that music was lifeblood to him. It made him happy and that was important. That he didn't die with his music still in him was everything. And my take away from that marriage and my time spent with a musician.

Here I am today building a way for me to spread art making and giving. When asked what is my why?

Simple. Art Heals. That is the theme of this first of hopefully many CARE Fairs. I'm going to put the schedule out there so it can make sense to myself and to any pARTiers.

There is no end to my word play. Get used to it :)

Fair Guidelines -

*Feel free to BYOB/L/D (breakfast, lunch, dinner) This is a park. With picnic tables. Art making requires fuel.

*First come, first pick of projects. I don’t know how else to make it fair unless you contact me to save something for you. I’ll let peeps figure that out for themselves. * I will have stuff for sale and donation boxes at all fairs. There’s an honor system so no cashier..you just use venmo or cash/check/promissory notes..your choice. It’s how I will be able to continue to do this sort of thing for community creativity. I am a believer that the universe has my back and am also grateful when the universe has homies who show up.
