When my granddaughter, Addie and I talked about a gathering of teens at my studio out in the boonies, I kinda thought it might be one of those nice things to think of but may not come to fruition. Well, it did. On Friday, the 13th of August, five kids drove from SLC, Utah to the CARE Alliance studio for some Art Healing the weekend before school started.
This could very well be a post about the juicy details of teen angst but what had happened was....
There is a connection gene that runs straight from the combination platter that is my Addie Grace that was so beautiful to witness and in brief sacred moments be a part of. She is indeed a rad human.
I want to just share the pictures and say no more but this, being an educational site, I'll share what I learned as well. First the pictures.
Things I learned:
*Build it, they will come. And make. And make. And make.
*Kids are smart. They are the teachers
*Even if you give permission for colorful language and first name calling, kids are still respectful and grandma is an acceptable title for an adult
*Looks are almost always deceiving
*Kid's imaginations haven't been jaded and if they are jaded, they still have the energy to unjade.
and..my very favorite thing I've already known for many moons...some of the best and most productive conversations happen when hands are busy creating. It's a phenomenon that can't be bottled. It just is. And this grandma LOVES it.
p.s. the last picture of those grown ups are Addie's dad and gramma..we CUTE!
p.s.s. and just how luck and social media would have it..this 8 year old picture showed up on my facebook memories. If you wonder how artists are made..just watch a kid with supplies, space and time!
