I've been mildly curious about the Gates family. I like what I've heard about how much philanthropy their family does. After hearing Melinda interviewed about her book, The Moment of Lift, I thought..hmm..why not listen to it with one of my audible credits.
I tend to listen to podcasts and books spoken by "charming" and "funny". This book is serious and informational. It might not have appealed to me if I wasn't trying to be NOT be swayed by charming and funny. I've shed tears many times over the stories that hit so close to home about women bending to the needs of men (sorry..it is women's history month so I'm just going to say it). The lack of family planning and access to birth control in the countries she speaks of strikes a chord. I've often thought of this as one of the roots of poverty and if I was going to be in a position to help, by goddess (#womenshistorymonth) I would be on the planned parenthood train first thing.
The stories Ms Gates tells about bringing her children along on what she calls "home stays" is just icing on the cake of CARE. Let's teach our kids to be activists! I recommend this book, y'all.
