I've been watching a (netflix) series that portrays domestic violence and many of it's subtleties in a very real way. Maid is worth watching for anyone who needs support or wants to be of support.

Family violence of all kinds is very real and overwhelming. When a person leaves that environment for a better life, it's not just right around the corner. It is a long ass journey for many.

Because I have a strong belief that art heals, I wanted to build a project to that end for the people who take that step and find themselves in shelters/safe houses. Being safe but without your "things". Being safe but living with strangers (at first). Being safe but wondering about your sense of self.

"Soft Landing" JAM Bags are specially designed canvas zippered bags that hold a journal and art supplies and a meditation kit. A soft place to land. One day, I hope to gather my people and run healing circles in places like this but while health is still a concern, the best thing CARE Alliance can do is make art and encourage healing.

I've received care packages when I've been in struggle and holding something and imagining someone created this for me is just a level of love that can't be bought.

I am taking a simple approach to this month's makers and givers pop up studio. I had a blast watching participants paint and work with clay and beads and wood and such. This month, we are focusing on stitch craft. Because...well, it's a play on Witch Craft...and it's October..where we honor witches! right?! And I have a not so secret desire to put embroidery on the cutting edge map. I ask that you don't knock it til you try it!!! So there. :)
